Simplifying trips LEH-LADAKH Episode-2

Hi all, i am back again to take you all to my next episode of my leh-ladakh trip.
Day-3  After the scary and adventurous day it was all a new day to start, the morning was beautiful, the nature in its full glory and in midst of all we all started our day with bikes check up and refilled our fuel tanks and headed towards leh. We decided to have breakfast in middle somewhere. One of the feature(s) that i would like to describe is that all the mountains you will watch when you head towards leh is that  all the mountains are barren, no sign of any kind of vegetation or greenery on them and that itself is a different experience and joy to watch them. After travelling 30 kms or so we stopped for our breakfast, and imagine the rates its so cheap over there maggi(cooked) in just Rs20/- and tea for Rs10/- aaahh. While having our breakfast we met two guys from punjab and they came on there Splendor bike just 100cc. but they were too gud in chat and we really enjoyed having conversation with them.

We also met a school going girl and she was really happy to pose with us. Next tough part was the lumayuru hills which have steep slopes and sharp turns. As i was still facing the shaky movement of my pillion wheel i started off early so as to cover as much distance as i could cover before any thing happens with that wheel. That part of the journey was most exciting as i was all alone on my own, you won't find anyone of these roads so often, it was completely empty and you will just hear the sounds of your heartbeat and your bike. After covering much of the part single, i halted a tea shop where  some other biking group was also having there halt. And there i met my friends again and then we started again and reached lumayuru. Lumayuru is famous for its monasteries and beauty. We were not meant for a halt there and kept on moving. Now the tough part was here, we have to climb down the lumayuru hills. As we started to descent, the pillion brakes went off and i was not able to apply those. Now i was on only my front disc brake, but i didn't knew when this happened the pumping of oil into the disc brakes also went off and i was left clueless. I somehow managed to stop my bike with my legs and putting it into the first gear and found a shoulder pass to stop. I waited for my friends to catch me and to work out for some solution. I was eagerly waiting for and as soon as i saw them coming i took a deep breadth and felt relieved. But you never know what is going to happen next. When we met before i could convey my issue with them on of my friend announced that they were not able to apply breaks in avenger also. Same condition as of mine. All were seeing each others face and was expecting for some fruitful result from anyone. We checked the tightness of the brakes and the level of oil for disc brakes, everything was just fine and we decided to move slowly only in 1st gear. Just as we crossed that section we felt relieved and found some straight/plain patch where we could have covered the distance which we were not able to cover due to slow speed. We halted at a place for our lunch and still leh was 130 kms. After our lunch as we moved on we all felt that our brakes have started to work again as they got some time cool off. When your brake shoes goes hot due to continuous applying of brakes they wont work, but now they were working.

We were happy that our brakes were working and now we are safe and sound. Amidst of all these hiccups we kept moving and tried to cover some distance as well. The roads were good throughout and BRO has done awesome job in maintaining these kind of roads. There were many awesome places where you want to take halt and click some pics. The moment you touch that spot where you find a straight road and mountains on both sides is just a pleasure and many movie scenes were shooted there. The scene in JTHJ when shah rukh khan comes on his bullet was shot there.

After the selfie and photo session we moved on and came across magnetic hill. The property of this area was you cannot move beyond 45-50 kmph whatever you do to get your speeds up.We tried moving our bikes to go beyond that but were not able to do so. And at last we thought there is no point of wasting fuel and should go on with normal pace.

Moving ahead to the last leg of our destination for the day we found a "Gurudwara-Shri Patthar Sahib" which was  maintained and run by 105 Engr Rgmt. As it was getting dark we decided to move and while going back will have langar here. At last we reached our destination and the moment you enter the town you will be welcomed by our national flag waving in its full glory. But thats not the end of the day here, we started locating our hotel, asked about the hotel and they were not able to help us, finally a gentleman from a shop helped us. What he said was shocking, he said the hotel that u have booked is 125 kms behind from where you people have come, actually at the time of booking hotel the hotel address shown was of leh, but then we realized that we are standing in the largest district of india and that area too comes under this region. We were left with no other option, we have to search a new hotel and the hunt begun. After 1 hr of search operation during which there were light showers as well, we found one hotel which was in our range. At the end of the day we all had a thought, at last we reached the place where we wanted to come.

This is the end of episode-2.
In the next episode find out more how we got our bikes maintained and our visit to changla and Pangong Tso.
